Renovation work at the German National Library in Frankfurt am Main
Reading rooms temporarily closed
15 October 2024 press release
The issues desk of the German National Library's reading room in Frankfurt am Main is to be converted into a new service area.
This will serve as a central information centre offering flexible advice and information services and dealing with visitor queries. In future, media will be made available in special media boxes and users will be able to borrow, store and return them autonomously. New seating will facilitate discussion and allow for flexibility when using media.
The renovation work is scheduled to take place from November 2024 until the beginning of April 2025. During this period, the library will remain open to users and visitors as usual. The reading rooms (including the German Exile Archive reading room) will only have to be closed for use from 28 October 2024 until 9 November 2024 so that the construction site can be set up and demolition work carried out.
Background

With the German Exile Archive 1933–1945 and the German Museum of Books and Writing, the German National Library also has valuable and rich special collections. It regularly organises readings, exhibitions, presentations and concerts to draw attention to its treasures and promotes a culture of books, reading and music with a diverse programme of events.
