4 March 2025 press release
On 1 July 2025, Wolfgang Stille will take up the newly created post of Chief Information Officer (CIO) at the German National Library, thus assuming a significant part of the responsibility for the strategic further development of digitisation and information technology at the German National Library.
Wolfgang Stille brings extensive experience in the field of information technology and digitisation to his new role. He previously held the position of Chief Technology Officer at hessian.AI, where he played a key part in developing the centre's digital infrastructures and services. With his expertise in the fields of data management, high-performance computing and artificial intelligence, he is exceptionally well prepared to meet the challenges faced by the German National Library.
"The German National Library has important tasks ahead of it: advancing our IT organisation still further, creating forward-looking IT infrastructures, and expanding sustainable solutions for handling large volumes of data. In Wolfgang Stille, we are delighted to have recruited an experienced, visionary leader for this key role,” says Frank Scholze, Director General of the German National Library.
Wolfgang Stille is looking forward to his new task: "The German National Library is a key player when it comes to preserving and providing access to Germany's cultural heritage. At a time in which processes are becoming increasingly data-driven, the significance of high-quality open-access data and the provenance of such data cannot be overlooked. For me, it will be an exciting challenge to drive the German National Library’s digital transformation in cooperation with a dedicated team and to use new technologies that will offer sustainable access to knowledge and culture for all."
The German National Library preserves Germany's cultural heritage in the form of publications and digital media, which it then makes available to the public. By appointing Wolfgang Stille as its CIO, the German National Library is strengthening its position as an innovative, forward-looking institution in the digital age.
