"What should I cook?" Recipes from the German Exile Archive 1933-1945
The collections of the German Exile Archive 1933–1945 have preserved various documents on this topic: cookbooks and handwritten traditional recipes that were taken into exile, cookbooks written in the refugees’ new domiciles which were deliberately adjusted to accommodate their new lifestyle, recipes that were taken out of the host country in case the emigrants had to return. Even exile press publications such as “Aufbau” and the “Shanghai Jewish Chronicle” devoted a column to cookery. Discover a collection of recipes for savoury and sweet dishes served either hot or cold.
The recipe booklet is also available in printed form. We would be pleased to send you a copy (while stocks last). Please contact us exilarchiv@dnb.de
