In its exhibitions, the German Exile Archive 1933-1945 at the German National Library presents the phenomenon of exile in all its scope and complexity. The foundations for this are provided by the comprehensive historical collections of the Exile Archive, which also always provide a means for addressing current social issues.
With the aid of the life stories of some of those who had to go into exile, as well as with numerous documents, our permanent exhibition conveys the complexity of exile between 1933 and 1945. In our temporary exhibitions, we present different themes in the context of historic exile and the present. This is our way of making a significant contribution to a living culture of remembrance.
