Lessons learned at the museum – the digital programme of the German Museum of Books and Writing

A boost for digitisation during the pandemic year: the German Museum of Books and Writing at the German National Library was unable to welcome visitors for many months. Instead, the Museum used this time to try out new communication formats. By publishing new topics on different channels, it succeeded in reaching a digital public, some of whom were new.

This process of digital trial and error yielded quite a few surprises:

The German Museum of Books and Writing has also shown that the pandemic can be a true catalyst for digitisation. New formats have been developed and new talents discovered within its own ranks at a speed which seemed impossible before 2020. These digital offerings will continue to enhance the programme of the German Museum of Books and Writing in the future.
