Podcast Augenrausch, Episode 3: Gerda Raidt

Leipzig-based illustrator Gerda Raidt is our guest in the third episode of our podcast AugenRausch. Egbert Herfurth (episode 2) and other renowned GDR illustrators had a powerful influence on Gerda Raidt (b. 1975) even in childhood. Following an initial grounding in fine art at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle, the Berlin-born illustrator turned to applied art and studied with Volker Pfüller at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig. Since then, she has created an increasingly diverse body of work consisting of dozens of books of her own design, beginning with the picture book "Matrosentango" (Sailor's Tango), which was highly commended in the "Most Beautiful German Books" competition. She was for example responsible for the many editions of Enid Blyton's works published by cbj-Verlag. In recent years, she has been supplementing her work as an illustrator by writing her own texts.

Episode four of AugenRausch (to be released in September 2024) will feature Austrian comic artist Nicholas Mahler.

The portrait series by Gert Mothes on Gerda Raidt was created as part of the podcast "Leipzigs neue Seiten" by the Stiftung Buchkunst. We would like to thank you for your kind permission to show the photos here.
