Scientific Service
Interface between research and DNB
The Scientific Service makes the German National Library's extensive holdings, collections and metadata available for scientific purposes and serves as a point of contact for all researchers and interested parties. Its staff support, pool and initiate scientific research projects, identify suitable external funding sources, coordinate the filling of applications with cooperation partners, and work to expand the German National Library's network of research institutions and universities. The goal of the Scientific Service is to make the German National Library's cultural heritage more visible, accessible and dynamic.
Research projects
The Scientific Service supports research projects of all kinds that are, for example, linked to the digital humanities and citizen science. As an infrastructure partner, it organises partnerships and interfaces between researchers and the German National Library's departments. Thanks to its extensive knowledge of the DNB's holdings, metadata and collections, the Scientific Service is able to drive research internally while also responding to external enquiries from the research community.
Support for theses and dissertations
The Scientific Service can also help with theses and dissertations for academic degrees, whether by generating ideas, addressing conceptual considerations or obtaining necessary holdings or data. If you would like to work with the German National Library's holdings or metadata as part of your research, please do not hesitate to contact us!
Science communication and PR work
Scientific communication targeting both expert communities and the general public is an integral part of what the Scientific Service does. It is represented at relevant expert conferences and facilitates events and presentations to raise awareness of the German National Library's holdings and services.
