Where can I find cover images?

In order to optimize user services the German National Library provides cover images of media works in her catalogue. Just as a table of contents and the display of a blurb, the images can help in assessing the relevance of a publication.

What’s the basis for displaying cover images?

The basis for displaying cover images in the DNB catalogue is an agreement that was reached between the German Library Association (dbv) and the collecting society VG Bild-Kunst. The agreement allows libraries to use the cover service of the VLB – German Books in Print and to display cover images in the presentation of a bibliographic record.

Can I use cover images shown in the DNB catalogue?

If you are interested in re-using cover images, please contact VLB – German Books in Print. The German National Library displays the images on the basis of an agreement between the German Library Association (dbv) and the collecting society VG Bild-Kunst.

Who can I contact regarding missing or incorrect cover images?

The display of cover images in the library catalogue is possible on the basis of the agreement bewteen the German Library Association (dbv) and the collecting society VG Bild-Kunst and the use of the cover service of the VLB – German Books in Print. It is therefore not possible for the German National Library to archive, store or exchange illustrations or images relating to bibliographic metadata.
Should you encounter cover images that are obviously incorrect, we would still ask you to let us know via e-mail so we can make corrections.
