About data selection

You can ask us to select metadata according to your individual requirements. The corresponding data will be made ready for you to collect via the SFTP or WWW servers against payment of a fee.

Bibliographic data from Deutsche Nationalbibliografie

Bibliographic data is selected using a list of the ISBNs of the titles you require. Data from Deutsche Nationalbibliografie series A, B, C, H, M, T and O is available for ISBN selection along with data from series G (Germanica and Translations), which was published until 2003. Selections can be made on the basis of other criteria (e.g. publisher's name or subject category) on request.

Bibliographic or holdings data for newspapers and journals (ZDB for libraries)

Bibliographic or holdings data for journals are selected according to the ZDB number or ISSN in the case of bibliographic data and according to the library code (BIK) or ILN (Internal Library Number) in the case of holdings data.
Selections of ZDB data are based on the latest full copy.

Integrated Authority File (GND)

Authority data can be selected according to different criteria on request.

Provision

The data can be provided in the following formats:

• Bibliographic data in the formats

  • MARC21-xml
  • DNB Casual
  • CSV (Comma-Separated Values)
  • RDF serialisations (not available for all records).

All formats are offered in UTF-8 decomposed character encoding.

Costs

The costs of providing metadata via SFTP or WWW servers are calculated according to time, effort and expense; however, the minimum fees are:

• Bibliographic or authority data (GND) 100.00 Euro per request (e.g. ISBN selection)
• ZDB for libraries 120.00 Euro per request (e.g. BIK/ILN selection)

The revenues generated by the federal government’s archives, libraries and museums are exempt from VAT in Germany as specified in section 4 no. 20 lit. a of the German Value Added Tax Act.
