The German National Library in Frankfurt am Main will be closed from 10 to 22 March 2025. The exhibitions of the German Exile Archive will open Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 21:30 and on Saturdays from 10:00 to 17:30.

New: Actionbound - explore the DNB interactively

Discover the German National Library by taking part in exciting digital scavenger hunts and guided tours or by solving puzzles in the Actionbound app. People of all ages are welcome to take part, whether alone or with friends and family. Different activities are available at our sites in Leipzig and Frankfurt am Main.

Karlchen is coming to the museum

Who hasn't heard of Wimmelbooks or the "Karlchen" stories? These picture books bear the unmistakable signature of Rotraut Susanne Berner, one of the world's most well-known authors and illustrators. The German Museum of Books and Writing has now been fortunate enough to acquire the renowned illustrator's pre-mortem legacy, consisting of some 5,400 original artworks created using various drawing and printing techniques.

Everything new in the service area

The DNB’s redesigned service area goes into operation on 24 February 2025. Users will now be able to access the library's collections through a digital media box system, providing flexible access to media. Following a comprehensive programme of renovations, the Humanities Reading Room will be open for users and visitors on 24 February 2025.

Together for diversity, freedom and science

More than 60 universities and research institutions concluded their activities on X last week under the motto “Together for diversity, freedom and science“. We follow the initiative and deactivate our X account. Instead, we will be posting on the Twitter successor Bluesky and the Instagram offshoot Threads, in addition to our existing channels.
