Data lab: programming for cultural studies
Grafik: André Wendler
Workshop from 16 to 18 September 2019 in Leipzig and from 25 to 27 November 2019 in Frankfurt am Main
Knowledge in cultural studies and the humanities is no longer stored only in books, museum holdings and archives, but is increasingly also being drawn from metadata, databases and data repositories. The ability to use Word is not enough when dealing with these. Our practical workshop will use specific examples to give you basic skills in programming that will make your day-to-day work with cultural data easier.
We will introduce you to programming with Python and familiarise you with various types of data. This will give you the skills you need not only to upload, prepare and analyse data, but also to present your results to the public.
The workshop is intended for students in the fields of humanities and cultural studies and interested staff at cultural and memorial institutions. No prior knowledge is required.
Workshop facilitators: Dr. Ramon Voges, Dr. André Wendler
