Umberto Eco's private library: towering shelves filled with more than 30,000 contemporary works and 1,500 antique and rare books. After his death, Eco's family granted director Davide Ferrario exclusive access to this literary treasure trove. The film was originally intended to document the library before its handover to the Italian state besides recording the move. However, much more was to come of it.
The film immerses viewers in the inspiring worlds of thought of this philosopher and writer and his associates. The result is not only a fascinating portrait of Umberto Eco but also a deep insight into the world's collective memory. The documentary interweaves the story of the library with Eco's philosophical reflections, thus creating an impressive testimony to the power of literature, memory and human heritage.

Mit dem Zug
Vom Hauptbahnhof mit der U4 in Richtung Bornheim beziehungsweise Enkheim und mit den S-Bahnen in Richtung Innenstadt bis zur Haltestelle "Konstablerwache". Umsteigen in die U5 in Richtung Preungesheim bis zur Haltestelle „Deutsche Nationalbibliothek“. Fahrzeit etwa 15 Minuten.
Mit dem Flugzeug
Vom Flughafen (Regionalbahnhof) mit der S-Bahn-Linie S8 oder S9 in Richtung Hanau beziehungsweise Offenbach bis zur Haltestelle „Konstablerwache“. Umsteigen in die U5 in Richtung Preungesheim bis zur Haltestelle „Deutsche Nationalbibliothek“. Fahrzeit etwa 30 Minuten.
Mit dem Bus
Die Bushaltestelle „Deutsche Nationalbibliothek“ wird von der Linie M32 angefahren.
2 / Mit dem Pkw
Die Adresse für das Navigationsgerät lautet Eckenheimer Landstraße 165. Hier ist die Zufahrt zur Tiefgarage. Die maximale Einfahrtshöhe beträgt 2,0 m.
Von Westen kommend
A 66 bis zum Autobahnende Miquelallee und der Beschilderung Fulda/Hanau folgen; an der dritten Kreuzung rechts in die Eckenheimer Landstraße Richtung Stadtmitte abbiegen; der Beschilderung folgend rechts in die Tiefgarage fahren.
Von Norden kommend
A 661 bis zur Ausfahrt Eckenheim, dort Richtung Innenstadt/Eckenheim einordnen und geradeaus bis zur dritten großen Ampelkreuzung fahren und diese überqueren. Am Gebäude der Deutschen Nationalbibliothek befindet sich nach etwa 100 Metern rechts die Einfahrt in die Tiefgarage.
Parken
Unsere Tiefgarage verfügt über 100 Pkw-Stellplätze im 1. UG für Besucher*innen.
Öffnungszeiten: Montag bis Freitag 6–22 Uhr, Samstag 8–18 Uhr.
Kosten: 2,00 Euro/Stunde, nur Barzahlung.
Die dauerhafte Anmietung von Parkplätzen ist nicht möglich.
Für Stellplätze auf der Straße erhebt die Stadt Frankfurt am Main im Holzhausenviertel von Montag bis Freitag zwischen 7:00 und 19:00 Uhr Parkgebühren in Höhe von 50 Cent pro angefangene Viertelstunde.
3 / Barrierefreiheit
Die Deutsche Nationalbibliothek in Frankfurt am Main verfügt über ausgewiesene Behindertenparkplätze in ihrer Tiefgarage und neben dem Gebäude in der Schlosserstraße. Der Zugang von der Tiefgarage zu den öffentlichen Räumen der Bibliothek ist über einen Aufzug möglich. Von der Schlosserstraße ist der Haupteingang ebenfalls barrierefrei zu erreichen.
4 / Für Lieferanten
Die Anfahrt für Lieferanten zum Betriebshof erfolgt analog der Anfahrt mit dem Pkw über die Eckenheimer Landstraße; der Beschilderung folgend rechts in den Betriebshof fahren.
