Authority data in museum collections
The forum will mainly focus on how authority data such as the Integrated Authority File (GND) can be used to improve links between our data and objects in digital space. The event is intended for anyone who uses authority data, controlled vocabularies and terminologies to catalogue and document museum holdings and collections or who would like to develop them (further) or deepen their knowledge in this area. The programme will include the following:
- Presentation of the results of a survey conducted by the Institute for Museum Research and the Coordination Centre for Scientific University Collections. This survey on the use of controlled vocabulary, thesauruses and authority data in museums and collections was commissioned by NFDI4Objects.
- Introduction to the museums and collections interest group (IG MuS) and its working groups
- Discussion on how we can benefit from using artificial intelligence in our cataloguing work for museums and collections. With inspiration by Sebastian Ruff (Stiftung Stadtmuseum Berlin – Berlin City Museum Foundation) drawn from the work of the eCulture team.
The GND Forum is a platform for knowledge-sharing and discussion. After each session, participants will have time to weigh in and report on their own experiences. The event will take place online.
Further information on the programme and registration can be found here .
The forum is being organised by members of IG MuS.
