Building bridges between terminologies: challenges and perspectives
Professional event

end 21.03.2024, 16:00
location Virtual
If standardised terminologies are used to describe data from different sources, this facilitates universal understanding and use of the data and thus significantly improves its quality. Vocabularies, authority data and application ontologies play an important role in the semantic linking of decentralised data stock.
Cultural studies and the humanities in particular are facing numerous challenges, since extensive vocabularies are required to describe and reference their objects and concepts (persons, geographic entities, times, corporate bodies, works/objects etc.) and assign sufficiently specific subject headings.
The objective of the event is to explore overlaps between consortia in the use and understanding of terminologies, even though there is still no vocabulary which fulfils all requirements equally or serves as the recognised standard in all fields.
The online event will be organised by Task Area 2 - Standards, data Quality and curation from 13:00 to 16:00 on 20 and 21 March.
Registration is open from 15 February to 18 March 2024.
