Little has remained of the former popularity enjoyed by jazz during the first half of the 20th century. Instead, other forms of popular music now dominate almost all areas of life. There have always been close family ties between traditional jazz and modern pop music, but like all other family constellations, the relationship embraces resentment and affection, hate and love. Nico Thom (Head of the Klaus Kuhnke Institute for Popular Music, Bremen University of the Arts) joins us to take a look behind the curtain that conceals the family secrets.
