Open Monument Day®
On 8 September 2024, we will be offering exciting insights into the German National Library as befits this year's motto "True signs. Contemporary witness of history".
The German National Library's building in Leipzig is both a historic monument and an integral part of the cityscape.
On the outside, there is barely any difference between the first two extensions and the original building, but on the inside, the styles of the respective epochs have been preserved to this day. Together with the third extension, the book towers and the fourth extension, which opened in 2011, the German National Library is a conspicuous landmark of the city of Leipzig.
Join us on a journey of discovery through the listed part of the building and find out what makes our library so special.
Extensive construction work is taking place in the issues department and some of the reading rooms; this is set to continue until the late autumn of 2024. Please understand that these areas will therefore be excluded from the guided tours.
Seek out clues on the trail that links change and preservation and experience the German National Library as a true witness of history.
