The German National Library was founded in Leipzig 111 years ago. We will be celebrating our anniversary with an Open Day in Frankfurt, to which we will also be bringing interested visitors from the Lepzig area who were previously only familiar with our premises in Leipzig. Win a trip to Frankfurt to explore our high-tech building which opened in 1997! We’ve got 50 places to give away to entrants to our competition. The prize includes bus travel from Leipzig and many fascinating insights into 111 years of history at the German National Library and what the future holds for us. You’ll even get a packed meal for the return journey!

You will receive quite a lot of information about the history and tasks of the German National Library during the bus journey, which means you will be well prepared by the time we arrive in Frankfurt am Main. In Frankfurt you will be taken on an exclusive tour with the director of our operations there, from a rooftop view over the Frankfurt skyline to our maze of underground storage areas. Afterwards, we’ll take you around the “Signs Exile. Experience and Testimony” exhibition at the German Exile Archive 1933–1945. Through interactive 3D technology you can talk to a contemporary witness about their experiences of life in exile. Go on a journey with us through our IT infrastructure or take a tour of the “Art for Architecture” installations. The day out concludes with a gig by the Leipzig folk rock band „The Flood“.

Entry to the competition is subject to the following conditions:

The organiser of the competition is the German National Library. Entry to the competition is free of charge. Entrants must be 18 years old or over.

The closing date for entries is 22 October 2023 . The draw will take place immediately after the closing date. Entries received after this date will not be included in the draw.

The winners will be drawn from all the entries received. The German National Library will notify the winners by e-mail and/or telephone. The right to appeal is excluded. Prizes may not be paid out in cash or transferred to another person.

If a winner does not reply within one week of us contacting them by e-mail, we reserve the right to draw another winner for the prize in question. In this case, the original winner will forfeit the prize without compensation.

The German National Library accepts no liability for participation in the competition (e.g. in the event of disruptions to the transmission of entries sent by e-mail); in particular, we accept no liability for damages suffered by the winners as a result of claiming the prize, except in cases where the damage was caused wilfully or by gross negligence on the part of the German National Library.

Employees of the German National Library are excluded from the competition. Minors may only accompany winners if the winner is their legal guardian.

By entering the prize draw, entrants expressly consent to the storage of the above-mentioned essential data by the German National Library for the duration of the competition. Entrants also consent to appear in photos and film recordings made for public relations purposes; these may be used on the German National Library’s websites and/or social media pages (without naming the person(s) shown).

Entrants are at liberty to withdraw their consent in writing or by e-mail with future effect; this withdrawal of consent will also constitute withdrawal from the competition. The entrants’ personal data will be used solely for purposes of running the competition and providing the bus trip. Their personal data will be erased after the competition. It will not be transmitted to any third party.
