We have the following tips to make sure that you can work effectively on your first visit:

  • Please register on our homepage under “My Account”
  • After you have been approved to use the reading rooms, you can order up to ten media from our catalogue. The media will be available no later than the next working day (Monday – Friday).
  • The free library card is valid for two years. It will be given to you during the registration hours of service at the library when you show your personal ID. If you bring your passport instead of a personal ID card, you will also require official confirmation of your place of residence.

Registration is open to users aged 16 and over. If you are a minor, you will need a completed declaration of consent (only available in German) and the personal ID of a parent or guardian, either the original or a copy (front and back).

  • Administrative fees and other fees listed in the fee schedule.
  • Please hand over coats, jackets, bags and backpacks for storage in the cloakroom.
  • You can take your own work materials (laptop, books, writing materials) into the reading rooms in a transparent bag.
  • You will need two two-euro coins to use the cloakroom lockers in Frankfurt am Main. You can also use tokens instead of two-euro coins, which can be purchased at our automatic pay station using a debit or credit card. A combination of two-euro coins and tokens is also possible.
  • Please bring your own headphones if you plan to use audiovisual media.
  • Internet access at the stationary workstations is free of charge, as is WLAN (DNB network and eduroam), which can be used on your own mobile devices.
  • You will need your own USB stick if you intend to store data from the internet, scans of printed media or print your own files.
